I don’t remember how I stumbled on to the Atlantis Project, but I was probably killing time in the computer lab while working on my undergrad. I came across a website for a utopian society “they” were trying to build called the Atlantis Project, and it was a man-made island that could be positioned just about anywhere around the world.
Oceania, the man-made island, would have been a cool place to visit. The site used to have a proposed constitution (based on Libertarian ideals), articles on the technologies that would keep it afloat, and lots of really cool computer images.
I don’t know if Oceania or the Atlantis Project was ever a serious notion. The site now links to a new project by the guy who ran it. The Lifeboat Foundation now seems to be geared toward building space stations for colonization instead of floating cities.
